GMAT Quantitative Strategies for Test Takers
In the GMAT quantitative section, you are required to solve every problem and choose the best of the 5 choices available. The level of mathematics required to work out each problem does not go beyond the basics of Aritmetic, Goemetry, Algedra that are part of school mathematcs. In this article we will discuss gmat quant strategies and tips required to successfully negotiate this section.
Effective Strategies for GMAT Problem Solving
1. Setting yourself a steady pace is crucial. Keep referring and checking the on-screen time periodically. Be a smart worker, do not ponder too much over difficult question.
2. It is important to do all the problem rough work on the scratch paper provided. This will facilitate error free solving of the problem. Sometimes a question might involve diagrams or figures but they are not demonstrated in the questions, in which case, draw that diagram yourself. This makes the problem easier to understand and hence easier to solve.
3. Read every question meticulously to make a note of all information given and what precisely is being asked. For word based questions, reading all sentences cautiously, transforming the data into equations or structure it in the form of a mathematical steps.
4. Even before you begin to answer a question, scan through the provided choices; if not, you could be wasting precious time presenting solutions in a shape that is not provided.
5. For each question that requires you to get an approximate answer, it makes sense to glance through the answer choices in order to verify the essential how close the approximations are, if not, you could end up doing a lengthy calculation where as just a few simple setps would have sufficed. 6. Do not spend much time seeking to work out a problem which is just too difficult to solve. Just make an intelligent guess and move on.
